What are you leaving on the table if you eat carrots, cucumbers, celery etc on "fast" days?

Say you eat 200 calories worth of carrots, cucumbers and balsamic vinegar on the days you’re meant to be fasting.

Would there be any tangible differences in terms of weight loss? What benefits of fasting would you be doing away with?

Assume there is no slippery slope and you would actually be able to limit yourself to 200 calories.

Go and look up Buchinger clinic in Germany. They have been studying fasting scientifically for almost 100 years. Watch their videos on YouTube. Find the “Science of Fasting” video. If you study the science, you understand that a lot of the comments here are just wrong.

Actually I think this would be a very effective way to lose weight. However it’s impossible for mortals. Fasting is already hard enough. And once you overcome the 24/48hr hurdle it’s not so bad as long as you don’t eat anything. If you eat a single potato chip you’ll become a stark raving hungry lunatic. So limiting yourself to just a rabbit plate a day would be like starting a 24gr fast every day. Brutal but effective.

But hey….I’m no doctor, just a stranger on the internet I probably don’t know what I’m talking about.

Fasting-you’re reducing autophagy effects, not sure at what point you’re completely negating them.

Weight loss-whatever works that keeps you at a deficit for as long as you can go. As they say, the best diet is the one you can stick too. Personally I start with water…add tea/coffee/broth…if need to eat something I will try celery or lettuce…even on those days I try to keep it under 500-600 calories. I’m fasting for weight loss so as long as I can keep a deficit and have enough energy to be productive, that works for me.

Basically you’ll be making your body stay in starvation mode and keep it from ever actually switching over to burning fat making your metabolism slow way down (instead of increasing as with 16-48 hour true fasts) Your body can’t switch straight from food to fat for energy, so if you eat even a little bit it goes to food mode, but doesn’t have enough to run. And takes a while to switch back to using fat. Also Your hunger hormones will be crazy high.
