My thirst is quite moderate, perhaps even slight. It is the tedium of being slightly thirsty for days that is so freaking boring. I am pretty sure that others feel this way. The tedium is almost unbearable. This is boredom on steroids.
But here’s the thing. Meher Baba, the spiritual master, said once, “Boredom is the clamor of unfulfilled desires.” And elsewhere numerous spiritual masters including Buddha have told us that desires are the dirt on our spiritual mirrors, the mirrors that we use and need to see the Infinite Self Within. The desires that dry fasting slams into our brain are of course thirst and hunger. This means that dry fasting helps to moderate and dampen these desires by us not expressing them for days on end. What a blessing!!!
We came for the health and we also get some spiritual freedom, more than what we had before we did the dry fast. Enduring boredom is a great accomplishment. And with holistic healing, this is usually the case.
Yeah – I would add, that the “desires” also has to do with other desires, which are then seen more clearly and evaluated – As long as you don’t deliberately try to avoid serious thought (or prayer), by watching some interesting TV series like Columbo, or a cooking show, LOL !
