what's the bioavailability of the nutrition/ vitamins in cereal? is it worth looking at?

I had a craving for cereal but figured I should try to get some good stuff out of it this time around and so I bought a Kashi go wild berry cereal, but now I’m curious do they act more like a vitamin and you really absorb only like 10 percent of what’s given, or is it like some other foods were you can actually get 90 percent of the vitamins it can give?

Answer

Two types of vitamins, fat soluble and water soluble.

If you are generally eating a decent diet already, you will likely already get enough water soluble vitamins in your diet, and the excess will be excreted in poo and urine. (B,C)

The fat soluble ones are more readily absorbed when eaten with a fat source, and excess is stored in adipose tissue. If you use whole milk, you will likely absorb more of the fat soluble vitamins (A,D,E,K).

Answer

I swear some people think about this stuff way too hard. Eat your cereal and supplement any vitamins you want/not getting enough of and stop worrying about that type of stuff. Or better yet, eat a diverse diet and nutritious meals and still eat the cereal of your choice. Are you specifically deficient in anything ?
