Why do I always get a cold when I try to fast (water only)?

Why do I always seem to get a cold when I try to fast for more than 24hrs? I thought it was because I am originally from a hot country but live in a cold country, but when I was in my country recently I tried to fast and got a cold. It starts with a sore throat and it moves on to be a full on cold. Does that mean I need to load up on any other vitamin (I take vitamin c)

Thanks

It is possible that you have keto flu?

If your body is used to carb burning, switching to fat burning can cause issues. Many times people recommend going into ketosis, letting your body get used to it, and then moving on to water fasting.

Answer

This happens when you eat alot of carbs im pretty sure. I usually sleep naked and wear shorts in winter but when im fasting im so cold i wear my wool sweater and jeans to bed and sleep fetal position. Its tough sometimes haha

Answer

Same here.

It seems that digesting food increases body temp. When you don’t do that your temp drops.

Answer

Totally normal. I just finished a 120 hour fast and was freezing the last few days. Had to wear a hoodie and sweats to bed. Your body temperature drops significantly while you’re fasting and raises significantly when you’re eating due to thermogenic effect of food on the body.

Also, depending on how lean you were to begin with, you’ll feel the cold more than someone with more body fat.
