Would 30cals of Almond milk break a fast?

I’m doing 16:8/18:6 for weight loss combined with Keto and CICO. I love coffee and have two during my fasting period. I hate black coffee so I take about half a cup of almond milk in each.

  1. Is this going to break my fast/ impede my results?
  2. If ‘yes’ - are there any alternatives to whitening my coffee that won’t?

Answer

If you are doing it for weight loss, a micro amount of fat based calories will likely not hinder the effects of your fast. I take 1/2 TBL of butter and 1 TBL of heavy cream in my coffee and still abstain from food from 8pm - around 2pm. If you are fasting for the autophagy you will hinder that process by consuming anything caloric.

Answer

I honestly don’t know how much it would interfere with autophagy.
My gut feeling is not much because it’s such a small amount of calories and not particularly high in carbs or protein it should be okay.
You may be familiar with Valter Longo’s FMD/prolon which is supposed to get you into autophagy. He recommends minimising coffee and caffeinated tea but they’re are actual calories in these programs, so I think you will be okay with 30 cals worth of milk.

Answer

With half a cup of almond milk sounds like you’re having almond milk with coffee flavours, and yes you’ve broken the fast. I know you might want to read otherwise to make you feel ok so you can remain in the delusion of still being fasted but you’re not

Answer

Yes.

“with Keto and CICO” How the f*** does that work? Keto is the theory that what we eat effects our hormones, and our hormones determine what happens with CICO and fat burning and other internal effects. CICO is like counting calories and ignoring the fact that what we eat bonks our hormones.
