Answer

I do 18:6 on days when I’m not hungry. I do 16:8 on average days and some others I just do my best. Your fasting schedule depends entirely on your life schedule, when you’re accustomed to eating, and when you work/sleep/spend time with friends and family. When I start/stop depends entirely on the day.

Keeping an absolute and rigid schedule is only helpful if that will support you in consistency of compliance. The most important part of longterm success with IF is doing something that maintains your quality of life and happiness.

My schedule is from Noon to 6pm. It’s what works for me. It still allows me to eat dinner it my family and I don’t feel I’m missing out on any “family time”. Honestly the hardest part for me is drinking black coffee in the morning. I hate the taste but I’m am addict. This schedule also helps them not feel like they are eating in front of me and teasing me. I’m usually up around 6am and they are off to school by 8.

I do 17:7 six days a week and 18-20 hours fasting one day a week. On the 17:7 days I finish dinner around 7:45pm, having about 1.5 cups of black coffee 7-8am and break my fast at 12:45 with a lower carb pb&j sandwich, and then have lunch about 2 hours laster.

On my longer fasting days I usually have a “large” late lunch/early dinner around 4:30-5:30pm. Usually like an ahi poke bowl, Mexican food, etc and then break my fast the following morning whenever my body says it can’t stand fasting any longer.

Answer

The beauty of IF is that you can schedule it when you want and make it work for you.

Personally 18:6 doesn’t work for me it just doesn’t fit into my daily schedule but 16:8 and 20:4 do and I like to do them on alternate days with the occasional 24hr fast once/twice a month.
