Eating out on elimination diet?

I’m one week into a basic elimination diet (Gluten, dairy soy, alcohol) and I’m planning on going for 23 days.

However, eating with my boss or clients is sometimes unavoidable and it’s impossible to avoid those foods at most of the restaurants in my country.

If I break the diet, do I need to start over again from day 1 until I complete the whole 23 days?

Answer

Depends why you are doing it.

If it’s just because you think it might make you feel better then you are fine with a couple mess ups.

If it’s because you are trying to find out if you have an allergy to something the it’s a waste. Everyone is different but it took me 2 months to notice any of the issues from my gluten allergy to subside.

Answer

Meal Prep? If you’re eating a restaurant check the menu and then custom order. If a restaurant can’t serve you potatoes (or rice) and chicken with peas and carrots… then it’s pretty shit restaurant.

I never eat out as I can’t have tomatoes, onions, citrus and that in basically any recipe ever. But if I were to, that’s what I’d do. Most places should have something on the menu you can either tweek or outright change aspects of.

Answer

Mmmh I would say no, because if you keep starting it over and over again you’re never going to figure out what you have reactions to, and could even cause an intolerance if you avoid dairy or gluten for so long. Just get back on at the next meal. Just stick to meat and vegetables if possible, and see if you can get them with just salt maybe?

Answer

Yeah you will need to start over. It renders the whole elimination diet useless.

I would just let them know what is going on and stick with water when going out. Does it suck? yeah but who cares. You need to do what is right for you.
