Got some advice for a new fasting guy?

I’ve long wanted to try fasting. But it has seem complicated, with so many options to fasting. Do you guys have any recommendations? I’m 30 years old, I’m about 1.90m tall and weigh 77 kg. I want to try because I’ve come to understand it’s healthy for your body, and can actually protect you against cancer for example? Sure, sign me up! I would like to start doing it in an easy and simple manner, yet effective and beneficial. I guess fasting 2 times per month is better than 1, but where is the sweet spot? Or would a week each month be good to sort of reset the body and burn fat and toxic compounds? I’m pretty thin, so I don’t want to lose to much fat I guess, so I won’t be going to look like a skeleton anytime soon from fasting? Would it be good to do it for a whole month like jews/muslims do, or would it be more beneficial to spread it out doing the year? That’s a lot of questions - if there is someone who can point me in the right direction with the wisdom you’ve got I would be very grateful, thank you.

Personally I’m not keeping the same fast hours everyday. My only rule is minimum 16h of fasting. If I’m hungry I will eat, if not then I’m going.

If your main reason for starting fasting is reaching authophagy, then those 36-48h fast about twice a month would be perfect.

As you are not trying too loose weight start with it slowly. See how your body and mind reacts. Try first a 24h fast, then give yourself some time and slowly reach the 48h.

Good luck!

My advice is read the Wiki. Fasting is the simplest thing there is, and if it seems complicated, it’s a sign that you should read about it until you know you’re ready.

According to Dr. Jason Fung, longer fasts should be what you’re looking for, since they’re the ones who bring the most health benefits – if you know what you’re doing, of course. But there’s no one size fits all in fasting. Start by doing short fasts and build from there.
