New to long fasts advice to blunt hunger

Hey everyone I’m doing my first 48-72 hour fast (haven’t decided yet). I’m really into lifting weights and have a really big appetite (foodie). I’m wondering if anyone is in the same boat and has any good tricks to forget about food or blunt hunger. I’ve done 24 hours a few times and had good experiences but I am excited to see what 48+ feels like. Thank you!

Answer

I don’t know where this idea came from, but hunger as a pop up ad:

When hunger pops up and distracts you, just chose to close the window/click X.

I can’t remember where, but I read about this, and it really helped me on my 7 day fast. Seems silly but as far as stupid mental tricks go, this works surprisingly well.

Answer

For hunger, as opposed to just wanting to eat for pleasure, go keto before the fast then transition into fasting, then make sure to stay well hydrated / keep your electrolytes balanced.

People suggesting staying distracted / busy are also correct. It helps a lot.

Answer

  1. be already in ketosis while entering a fast
  2. reduce carbs the days prior
  3. more water
  4. more salt, potassium, magnesium
  5. do chores around the house. Use the energy, if you sit around doing nothing you’ll get hungry.
  6. apple cider vinegar, coffee, tea. In moderation.
  7. watch videos on YouTube of people eating, cooking.
  8. remove food from the vicinity
  9. mental prepare yourself the days prior.
