IF every single day?

I’ve done IF off and on now for a few years. I started doing 16:8, CICO and plan to start keto/low carb soon. I mentioned I was fasting every day (16+ hours per) and one of my friends who is super into health and what not said it’s actually not healthy to do long fasts like that every single day, but maybe every other or every few. For example: 16 hour fast Monday, 12 hours Tuesday, 12 hours Wednesday, 20 Thursday, etc (just a random example).

Does anybody have any input or noticed any side effects from doing long fasts every day?

Answer

Most everyone who is actively in an IF regimen here will do it every day. Many will do 16, 18, 20, and 23 hour fasts every day for years. I don’t know of any issues specifically related to fasting every day. 16 hours isn’t really that long.

You are finding that it’s best not to talk to others about fasting. You’ll get a lot of advice you didn’t ask for. I do 36 hour fasts every other day and absolutely keep that to myself because I know there are people in my circle who will tell me I’m about to die from it.

Answer

Fasting is perfectly healthy to do consistently (if done correctly and listening to your body). People can OMAD or 20:4 or whatever as long as they consume proper nutrients while they eat and/or supplement salt/ potassium/magnesium while fasting. All you’re doing is pushing back what time you eat. Nothing wrong with that
