Is Splenda really that bad?

I’m a newbie. I found that what really helps me in the morning is a green tea with Splenda and then my OMAD is a salad. I keep reading sources that say Splenda is good. Others say it will raise your insulin so you can’t IF with it

Answer

Really it comes down to how much you view or beleive fasting as a structure vs fasting as a physiological process. Some folks prefer to fast very cleanly and it helps their process, other folks ride the edge and still have success with their goals.

Answer

It will cause an insulin response. Not as big as refined sugar but it absolutely will. While you’ll still lose weight from CICO putting splenda in your body during your fasted time, this kind of fasting is called dirty fasting. It wont stop weight loss that CICO causes (and plenty of studies out there out that support the conclusion that artificial sweeteners slow metabolism down more than non-artificial ones) but it will stop the faster weight loss that clean fasting helps push along and all the other health benefits that come from fasting clean. Your body won’t move to the fat in your body to start burning fat the way it does when you clean fast.

I was losing about half a pound a week dirty fasting. Not bad. Started clean fasting, suddenly 2 lbs a week steadily sometimes more.

Just study for example why a lot of scientists say Diet Coke for example is worse than regular coke for our health. Lots of people downvoting these facts stated by other people but it doesn’t negate the fact that splenda and other artificial sweeteners aren’t it.

Answer

It’s fine. One of the things that raise an insulin response in your body is artificial sweetener. But just thinking about eating something sweet can do the same.

What I want to ask though - what kind of salad? Make sure you are eating enough calories, and getting enough nutrition, some protein and healthy fats. Nutritional deficiency is no joke and too few calories will work against you by slowing your metabolism.

Answer

It does technically break your “fast” and prevents the ketosis/autophagy pathway by stimulating insulin, but I think it’s a great 0 cal sweetener. If that’s keeping your calories on track, keep doing it! But for the full IF response, try going without sweeteners until your eating window.

Answer

For weight loss, I wouldn’t sweat it. Sucralose breaks a fast but it’s in my favorite coffee syrup and I simply refuse to give up my morning coffee before my eating window starts lol. If it helps keep you satisfied and manage your hunger, do it.

Answer

If Splenda were good for weight loss, wouldn’t we see a decrease in the number of obese Americans since commercial introduction in 1999?

I just use pure cane sugar in my cooking now. I don’t know if it would be good for you, personally, but I’ve been a lot happier in general since making the switch.

Answer

I would suggest you just buy better tea, I assume Splenda is some kind of artificial sweetener. Go to a tea shop and buy some awesome tea and cut the Splenda or sugar or whatever you use to make your tea drinkable
