Looking for knowledge and possibly hope. Attempting to heal neurodegenerative disease with fasting.

Hello everyone. I am showing signs of a brain disease/neurodegenerative illness caused by repetitive trauma to the head. Life is becoming much more difficult.

I’m wondering if anyone has any knowledge of fasting to heal the brain or nervous system.

Thank you and keep striving.

Answer

I’m not a doctor but if I were you I would try intermittent dry fasting.

There is no hard data on dry fasting to heal neurodegenerative diseases.

There is this study on Ramadan fasting which shows that protective factors could be upregulated:

>Intermittent fasting from dawn to sunset for 30 days upregulates proteins protective against Alzheimer’s disease and neuropsychiatric disorders

Intermittent fasting from dawn to sunset for 30 consecutive days is associated with anticancer proteomic signature and upregulates key regulatory proteins of glucose and lipid metabolism, circadian clock, DNA repair, cytoskeleton remodeling, immune system and cognitive function in healthy subjects

Answer

Look into the use of ketone supplements to help brain function. Something like Keto OS, or maybe even regular MCT oil.

Dr. Thomas Seyfried, in some of his earlier talks on YouTube, talked about another doctor who had a husband with Alzheimer’s. She was able to improve his cognition to a large degree with ketone supplements and a ketogenic diet.

Avoid glucose, too - since it tends to shut down ketone production if you eat more than a little bit of carbohydrates
