Protein levels & fasting

Hiii fasting family. I’ve been lurking on this sub for a while & i love everyones tips and advice on fasting, so I figured I’d ask something on my mind. I’m still new to fasting myself & have done a few 24, 48 & 72’s. I started a fast today at 12 (Monday) after lunch at work & my goal was to push til around Noon on Friday. I recently decided to donate plasma, and on the day of your appointment you need to have adequate protein levels. My appointment is 9 am this Friday. Any tips or advice on how I should go about this? If I complete my fast, will my protein levels be too low? If i eat regular, healthy meals after I end my fast will my protein levels be up to par? Lol thanks in advance :)

Answer

Apparently the problem is that part of the process is to use sodium citrate so the blood doesn’t coagulate while in the machine. On an empty stomach this can cause a very nasty reaction.

Google up ‘Citrate reaction’.

Protein in the blood is a complicated thing. It’s more a factor of liver function but malnutrition can cause it and more importantly albumin levels to be low. That being said, as long as you are not reaching levels of chronic malnourishment (which your schedule does not appear to do so assuming your caloric intake is sufficient, nor does this subreddit support regimens that cause this) your protein levels should be done.
