Starting a 5-day for gut health, after feeling awful on OMAD

Weirdest thing. I tried transitioning from rolling 72s to OMAD for maintenance, but it’s not just that my hunger pangs were much harder on OMAD: my stomach also feels awful, and not just right after eating. I know some of us are better long-haul fasters than short-term, so I think I’m going to try a two-meal schedule next time, with two fasting days thrown in weekly… but first, I just want my digestive system to feel better.

Anyone else doing a gut reboot right now? Or still looking to find their ideal maintenance routine?

Answer

OMAD works best when transitioned into over time, in my opinion. It’s hard for the body to handle a routine of so many calories at once, especially after a prolonged fast when it’s been asleep so long

I often fast with the intent to give my gut a rest. One thing that I’ve learned is that including prebiotics and probiotics into my refeeding plan makes an incredible improvement in my micro biome, which contributes to better digestion and even mental health/mood.

Answer

I honestly cannot do OMAD and I don’t think it’s healthy. Stuffing yourself with 1500+ calories in one meal is not a good idea 🤷🏻‍♀️

I personally do 20:4 and it works well for me. I did 16:8 and 18:6 for 9 months first, then transitioned to 20:4. I eat 3 smallish low carb meals within 4 hours (except Saturday where I do 16:8 and eat more carbs).
