Starting A New Job With Overnight Hours And Looking For Advice

I’ve been doing pretty well with my 20:4 diet (and even enjoy it most days) and some days even go as far as 21:3 or 22:2 (I don’t think those are actual times people use but it just works out that way). I will be starting a job where I work midnight to 8AM or 2AM to 10AM at least 5 days a week. Add on top of that a half hour commute each way, two hours at the gym and of course my fiancée. My days and nights are going to be jam packed. I much prefer going to the gym before work but my gym closes at 10PM. My thoughts right now are to workout directly after work and then have my eating window immediately after. I really, REALLY wish I could workout before my (physically demanding) shift but that doesn’t seem to be an option. Any advice? Anyone with a similar situation? Thanks!

Answer

In my experience, working out before eating is beneficial. I lose weight from that direction. If I eat first, no change.

I work 12 hour shifts. I pack a good lunch and eat halfway through. And I drink a lot of herbal tea when I get home and am winding down. (I do let the physical demands of my job count as exercise on work days.)

After a few nights, you’ll figure out what suits you best,
