If I add stevia to my black coffee, will that break my fast?
I’ve read a lot of conflicting information.
I believe it triggers an insulin response compared to black coffee however it’s not sugar so it’s probably a speed bump compared to a hill in terms of the insulin spike.
I make a dirty keto simple syrup with stevia for mixed drinks. It’s not perfect but better than the alternatives.
While stevia is marketed as 0 cal, some research suggests even the taste of something sweet (even if there are no sugars) will trigger insulin.
With that being said, if you’re adding a small amount and a little stevia helps you stick to your overall game plan, I say whatever to that. May there be a tiny peak of insulin? Maybe. Does the tiny peak of insulin make it mentally and physically more likely for you to stay on course for your end goals? Then, I say enjoy it!
