What explains terrible acid reflux/acidity during fasting?

In my early 20s, I used to be an experienced faster. I maintained my weight at 100-110 pounds at a height of 5 feet 3 inches. I had no acidity or acid reflux with extended fasts, remained very active and was quite quick to lose weight.

Now that I am in my 30s, obese at 180 pounds plus, and all my attempts at water or dry fasting have been stopped midway because of terrible, painful acid reflux. I have attempted several fasts and at about the 4th day, I have crazy acidity which doesnt get better with baking soda or antacids. I eventually have to eat food for 2 or 3 days and then attempt again. The same story. I dont know what changed except that I gained a lot of weight. Is this why the acidity flared up? On normal eating days, I have no reflux.

Answer

someone told me that potato juice for a month, one shot before every meal helps to rebuild the stomach lining and that helps to stabilize the acids as well. herself had bad reflux and then did that regimen and now it is been 20 years and everything is fine. said it is a old german folk remedy.
