36 hour fast, depression and lethargy on day 1. Happiness and positivty on day 2.

Yesterday I completed my 36 hour fast. The first day I was feeling dreadful. Depressed, low energy, lethargic, no interest in anything, constant anxiety about past and future. Next day I felt just the same in the morning but after an hour or two I started feeling amazing. I had an easy time laughing (which is very rare for depressed me!) I felt courage and confidence. Like I could take on anything in the world, talk to any street girl I wish! Is there a scientific explanation between these very polar opposite states of mind? From one day to another, I can’t explain it. I’m so very perplexed now. I’m intrigued. I will definately do this again next weekend.

Answer

Probably because it took you 36 hrs to get into ketosis. Ketones heal the brain and energize you. That switch from burning your primary fuel as carbs to fats (ketones) probably happened around 36 hrs. Also, don’t do it once per week. You won’t gain any benefit from it. If youre trying to lose weight do 36-48hr fasts 3 times a week and keep meals keto.

I always look forward to Euphoria at 36-48 hours. I don’t know the exact reason but it’s is definitely dopamine or serotonin related. I think it’s am evolutionary response, your brain is giving you a boost of happy hormones so you can be motivated to go hunting for food.
