Friend of mine is vomiting 38 hours into a fast?

I’d like to help my friend out here, it’s my friend’s first fast and started 38 hours ago, and vomiting has just occurred. . The friend is committed to making it 3 days total. Any advice? The only thing my friend has been consuming is electrolytes in water with a zero calorie flavor squirt in it. My friend also has massive headaches but I think it might be related to caffeine withdrawal. Thanks in advance.

Update: My friend broke the fast, as the person didn’t want to go to see a doctor… But everything seems 100% better after eating, chicken and broccoli and took a multivitamin and some fish oil.

Many issues and questions can be answered by reading through our wiki, especially the page on electrolytes. Concerns such as intense hunger, lightheadedness/dizziness, headaches, nausea/vomiting, weakness/lethargy/fatigue, low blood pressure/high blood pressure, muscle soreness/cramping, diarrhea/constipation, irritability, confusion, low heart rate/heart palpitations, numbness/tingling, and more while extended (24+ hours) fasting are often explained by electrolyte deficiency and resolved through PROPER electrolyte supplementation. Putting a tiny amount of salt in your water now and then is NOT proper supplementation.

Be sure to read the our WIKI and especially the wiki page on ELECTROLYTES

I know they already broke their fast, but I jumped right into fasting a while ago and vomited the entire night of my very first day because I consumed too much sodium too quickly. I got a terrible headache and thought I was low on electrolytes, then took in too much sodium. It was terrible. I’m not saying that’s what their issue was, but it’s a possibility. That incident turned me away from fasting for a long time, so just continue to be supportive!

Breaking the fast was a good call. Have them try skipping the water flavoring if they make another try later. Can’t say that’s definitely what it is, but those things tend to give me a nauseated feeling on an empty stomach, they never bother me when fed

This happened to me today! It was my first extended fast. I was at 42 hours. I drank a shot of ACV, electrolyte water, a green tea/hibiscus/lemon balm tea, and I took my vitamins and meds. I felt super nauseated so I laid down. I got up about two hours later and drank more water and I just vomited. I felt way better after that! I decided hmm.. vomiting isn’t good. I should probably eat. I ate and am going into another 36hr fast.
