Grazing during non-fasting window?

So I am doing a 16:8 type fasting and have a question. From 1PM - 8PM I tend to graze rather than eat meals. I typically take in around 1500 calories and keep my carbs around 30 G per day. However, I’m eating something during at least 6 of those 8 hours like a single serve pack of no sugar Peanut butter, carb-master yogurt or a handful of walnuts. The meals I consume are three pieces of no sugar chicken sausage & 3 egg whites (breakfast) a medium size leafy salad (lunch), and salmon or roast turkey breast dinner. I also drink a whey protein shake with half a cup of unsweetened almond milk and water. Am I doing this wrong?

Answer

My response to are you doing it wrong…. Is it working? Because it it’s working, it’s not wrong.

For most people, grazing is an issue. I myself am an awful glutton and why I do this is so that all of the not eating leaves me chances to achieve satiety at least once a day, but it was once a day when I was actively dieting. That was the reward and the reason the day of fasting was “worth it” and the next day was even possible.

But if you are doing this to lose weight and the plan you laid out feels sustainable and you are losing weight, rock on.

Answer

From personal experience it works better for me when I stick with two larger meals and no snacking, and that is want is recommended by Dr. Fung to allow your insulin to go down between meals.

But do what works for you, some days I also just graze and eat a light dinner.
