Day 9 of my fast…5 more days to go. I’m going to be honest. I’ll probably go longer.
You only get so few opportunities to successfully do an extended fast. If my body is okay on day 14, it’ll just be another day. I’ll keep going while fasting luck is on my side.
9 times out of 10, my attempt at an extended fast fails. When my body actually complies, I have to take advantage of it!
I wanted food today. I made salt and pepper chicken wings for my husband. I also prepared some teriyaki beef for his meal prep. I was picturing myself putting some hot white rice in a bowl and covering it with some teriyaki beef. Sprinkle some green onion and sesame seeds. A simple Asian meal.
In that moment, I almost started feeling sorry for myself. I wanted to eat it. But then I thought, hey nine days! It’s been nine days since I ate. That’s so cool. So I put the teriyaki beef on my list of ‘to eat’ when I’m done this fast.
That’s the thing…when you do something difficult like an extended fast, you don’t want to throw it away because you’ve fought for every minute of it. I’m not going to throw what I’m doing away for a satisfaction that will last briefly.
The fast isn’t about the food, it’s about you and your mental strength. You may want to read that again.

I’m only 31 hours in my extended fast so far and I literally spent hours on a food delivery app combing thru the different restaurants “placing orders” today. I came so close to ordering a pizza, pho, curry… But I talked myself out of it and heated up some bone broth instead. This definitely ain’t my first rodeo, but it seems the winter blues got me seeking extra comforts lately.

Freaking YouTube keeps showing me ads for cheese brands, so I know what you mean lmao. Then I also made the mistake of looking up recipes. Ended up looking through my fridge and pantry as well. It’s driving me crazy but like you said, we’re already in too deep to quit now!
Crazy!! I’m in hour 220 of an extended fast too! I am leaving it really open ended because I just don’t feel hungry but I will definitely go until at least 14. Hoping maybe for December 23. Not fasting for Christmas, no way.
But it’s so cool to almost be on Day 10! Never gone this long. Anyway, great job, keep it up!
I agree. I wish I hadn’t broken my second 7 day annual fast last year. I wasn’t hungry and food didn’t even taste good. This year my body wouldn’t even let me go past 2.5 days. Why was I so dumb… lessons learned, I guess?? Maybe I’ll be able to try again before the year is up… but probably not what with holidays.
Babe, you spoke to me! I do intermittent fasting and have never done even 24 hours. But IF has helped my mentality around food so much and makes me feel so strong. I want to go longer! How do I know when it is the right time? I can make excuses forever about how busy work is or how I’m not feeling 100% so it’s a bad time to try.
I love putting food on my to eat later list. It makes me feel better in the moment. During a 7 day fast, I read an entire restaurant menu because I had a breakfast planned a couple days after ending the fast. I had my meal all planned out and it was so delicious when the time came.
Do you find yourself becoming terribly cold? I can handle a three day fast like a champ, but about 4/5 days into longer fasts I get terribly cold.
