IF 11AM-9PM, but work out at 6AM?

Hey guys!

So, really just want some advice from others, through the lockdown I managed to lose over a stone because I worked out in the mornings usually around 9/10AM then eat at or sometime after 11AM and stop eating usually around 7PM however I allow my eating window until 9PM to account for days in the future that I wouldn’t be able to. Anyway, I gained this weight slowly back as exercising was cut to certain evenings and my food choices got worse however IF has always helped me with bloat and digestion so I kept this as it was.

Anyway, for those of you who work out, I’m about to be starting a new job and ideally I’d like to workout in the morning but would put me at working out at 6AM (A mix of cario like body combat from les mills and free weights). However, would this be really detrimental to my muscles if I then continue to not eat until 11AM?

Does anyone else workout and not eat for a long time after or is it worth just eating at 8AM?

Any advice would be great! Thank you!

As long as you eat sufficient protein, your body will be able to use it to repair/build muscle, no matter when you eat it in relation to exercise. Source: article in the Journal of the International Society of Sports Nutrition

Answer

My eating window this week has been 5-6pm to 10pm (trying to move to a permanent OMAD), and I’ve exercised well before my window opens (e.g. today I went to the gym at 2 pm). Both cardio and weights. I don’t have any issues with energy levels (if anything, I have more!) when I exercise while fasting, and I don’t really feel the need to eat afterward.

Having said that, I’ve been doing 16:8 or 18:6 consistently for almost 2 months and eat low-carb meals. Depending on how long you’ve been doing IF and what you eat, YMMV.
