Is Plain Water Still Worth It?

Water from natural sources like springs and rivers contains electrolytes like sodium, potassium, and magnesium, but the filtering process removes them.

Growing up, I was always told to have a large glass of water with my meal because it aids digestion and could save my life if I choke. However, I’ve been noticing that when I refeed on a high-salt or high-carb meal after a fast, my weight shoots up a lot if I drink plenty of plain water, even though some say drinking more water can reduce water retention the day after. A couple of weeks ago, I broke a 48 hour fast on snake juice with two big grilled cheese sandwiches stuffed with greens and meat. The meal came out to be about 2,000 calories and 160g carbs, and I ate it early in the afternoon (\~2pm) with lots of plain water during and after the meal. I had regular bowel movements that evening and the morning after, but I was still almost 3 pounds heavier when I weighed myself. After the water weight came off, I had the same meal at night (\~8pm) with no water, then dry fasted for just 13 hours and was 1.2 pounds lighter the morning after. I didn’t work out that day or sleep too long because I had so much food in my stomach, but I still lost weight. Also, when I work out hard and drink plain water, I have to chug like 32+ oz of water to quench my thirst and finish the session. With snake juice, just a few swigs throughout the session keeps me in the game.

To me, snake juice is better because:

The only advantage of plain water I can think of at this point is that it tastes better lol. Any thoughts on how plain water still has its place in the diet, if at all? The success of this diet has made me skeptical about how much water we should be drinking, and if we were ever meant to drink water without the natural salts.

Answer

Who cares about water weight, it’s not fat. You can’t be so neurotic that you can’t drink a glass of water because you’re afraid the scale will increase by one glass of water while it’s inside you. If you drink too much water and not enough salt it will eventually be expended and vice versa but you definitely need to reduce the concentration of your snake juice if that’s the only thing you want to drink. Salt also let’s you hold more water weight tho to stay isotonic, so that’s not even the plain water that’s doing it to you, you want to be isotonic and should have less salt if your body feels like it needs to be a super balloon to handle the amount of salt you’ve consumed
