Questions for those who fast over 72 hours

What is your work situation like? I work in retail full time and have trouble fasting more than 20 hours due to my inconsistent schedule. I fast for longer periods on my days off. I’m also on my feet a lot, I was wondering if a lot of people on the extended fasts were retired or working from home, if not how do you keep the energy to fast for prolonged periods while having to run errands and work?

Answer

I find it much easier to fast at work and no, I’m not working from home. I do sit a lot but i will usually get at least 6000 steps between leaving for work and returning home. For me, not having enough energy isn’t what makes it hard to fast, it’s being bored and having too much time to think about eating. I just don’t bring any food to work, and I don’t buy anything either.

Answer

I don’t go over 72, my max is 71 hours, lol. However, my hat goes out to anyone who can fast doing a desk job or when retired! I would be bored to death. My off days are the worst days, I simply feel like the days are so long to try and stretch out and not think about wanting to eat. I don’t even think it is because I am hungry, just the thought of having to do something with my time, which has nothing to do with the preparation of food or the eating of it.

But my job is active, I am usually on my feet for long periods of time and outdoors, so lots of sweating. These are my easiest days. I am active, I am busy, and my time is spoken for. So, when I am this busy, I just make sure I have enough electrolytes, am very well hydrated and the rest is cake.

Answer

I plan on fasting for 10 days. But I do have a job. Should be wild. I plan on taking electrolytes to help my brain carry on. We’ll see how she goes. If I can’t think I might have to do 5 day fasts instead. I can for sure go 3 days without eating and working.

Answer

I have a desk job. Beyond 24 hours I battle with focus at work I think some of that is that I snack a lot at work so I’m battling those urges. I’m doing a 5 day fast and I’m on Day 4. I called in a vacation day. Yesterday was ok but today I’m really tired and not as mentally sharp as usual. I had to dial in to two “emergency” calls and I wasn’t as active as I usually am. My boss told us something about three times and I still can’t remember the exact date, which I do need to know. My job is intellectually challenging and relies on me keeping a million data points at hand at almost all times. I felt pretty useless today and my decision making for complex problems does feel slower. I also made an inappropriate for the seriousness of the situation joke. Normally I’d just have thought it.

Next time I do this I’ll time it so that the last two days fall on the weekend.

I’m taking electrolytes and I stopped my workouts so as not to add additional areas on my body.

Answer

I’ve been doing 104hrs per week for a couple of months now, and I don’t find myself losing energy. Sometimes I just get a headache or feel really hungry. Maybe your body just needs to adapt to the longer fasts?
