I’ve just finished a 13 day water fast my goal was 14 days but I broke early as yesterday was not great and I no longer felt comfortsble fasting.
Stats F 45 5ft 4” 173lbs>151lbs so a loss of 22lbs.
Overall I enjoyed the experience days 4-7 were horrendous for pain, migraine and the joint pain I would usually get was exacerbated but day 8 brought a very funny eurphoria. Yep, the giggles…
I continued to cook and bake for those I love but I just didn’t have the energy or will to go to the gym as usual. I have ME/CFS anyway so I am used to being lethargic, it felt the same really, good days, bad days nothing different from normal. Except there was one thing I did notice I took much less medication for pain especially days 8~11.
It was my first fast and I am quite proud of myself and the discipline I found I had but I do believe everyone can do it. It’s all about listening to your own mind and body.
I broke my fast with scrambled eggs then soup x 2 a few hours in between. So far so good.
I would like to do another fast in the near future. My question is what is the best advice for such if my nutrition from now was very good? I was intending on staying in keto or very close allowing for normal life.
Any help appreciated.
I’m surprised there were no repercussions from starting up with fried protein. It’s best to start with very light liquids. Juices, veggie or fruit, progressing to light solids, then finally proteins. The reentry is super-important, and a smooth one is needed for the body to remain stable. Then you will know when it’s ok to fast again.
