Day 17 of my water fast

Sadly, I have ended my water fast today. I was not prepared to go this long water fasting. This was my first time doing long term water fasting… I guess i was really naive about the whole thing thinking i could just drink water and be fine.. but the more i researched the more nervous I got about continuing, regarding mineral deficiency, refeeding syndrome, and electrolyte deficiency.. i was under the impression the Human body naturally stores and recycles electrolytes?

I will do a much longer water fast again in the future after I do more research and under supervision of a professional..

Answer

First, congratulations for going as well as you did! Many people cannot/will not ever make it as far/long as you did. You did great!

Next, I can tell you having done a medically monitored 30 day water fast, all the lab work showed no issues. Your weight is high enough to sustain an extended fast. You’re correct your body stores most of the essentials you need in your fat. Cave people didn’t have access to electrolytes or vitamins in the sense we do today. They didn’t prepare and fasted our of happenstance. For the record, I bought generic store brand electrolyte water with my fast and drank some daily. I netted a 32 lb weight loss.

Lastly, avoid reading too much out there while you are doing a fast. Instead, surround yourself with knowledgeable support, such as this Reddit support group, Facebook groups, etc.
