Failed IT twice because of sugar cravings at night, what can I do?

Any tips from the sub? I tried IT twice (18:6) but ended up eating ice creams/drinking coconut water after the eating window. I am frustrated to try again now.

Answer

Don’t keep ice cream or coconut water in your home. Or put notes on it saying “This can wait until tomorrow.”

Or when you come across it at night, say “No” out loud to it. Because your eating is a choice. And verbalizing it probably can help you.

Answer

What are you eating during your eating window? If you are craving sugar, you might try increasing protein and decreasing carbs. Basically, if you stuff yourself full of as much meat as you possibly can during your eating window, then you won’t crave the ice cream and sugar at night. You won’t crave anything because you’ll be stuffed and it will make fasting so much easier. You’ll also start eating less naturally.

Answer

First time I did IF for a few months, and I had the same problem.

Chewing sugar free gum in the evening changed that habit a bit away from snacking.

After a while doing that I now close eating window roughly 2 hours before bedtime (sort of the minimum amount of time to pass before bed). Brush teeth as soon as dinner is done.

It just takes time to build a new habit.

Answer

Yeah… I would remove all temptations. Then plan something like tea or unsweetened seltzer water for your craving event. The feeling of you got something, will feel better than nothing.

This stuff just takes time. The sugar cravings won’t stick around for long. Just got to get over the hump.

Answer

It’s a diet. You have to get in the mindset that you’re going to be hungry. The key is resisting or curbing that urge to eat. I personally use maldon salt, water, bone broth, flavored seltzer water and occasionally natural sugar free root beer to help.

Answer

I moved my eating window so I stop at 10pm, I will have a 150 calorie ice cream bar or some mini chocolate bars and pop corn around 9:30 and it keeps me sane and happy. I usually go to sleep around midnight to 1am. It works for me!

Answer

Had the same problem. I then stepped on the scale more frequently. That made me think twice if that short rush of satisfaction is even worth the time i spend beating myself up with guilt lol. Worked for me. Or you could just give yourself a break for a whole day, stuff your face with everything you like, then switch to tea as a dessert instead of something sweet. Or gum.

Answer

I fast 20:4. I purposely start fasting usually no later than 6pm.

After 6pm and basically into the night is when I make all the worst food decisions lmao. So set yourself up so your fasting during those craving hours and eventually the pangs fade away

Answer

When I first started IF a few years ago I had this same issue, if applicable, try cutting all sources of sugar, even things that aren’t obvious: ketchup, salad dressings, BBQ sauce, kombucha and see if that helps
