I broke my plateau…by not fasting? MIMS

Okay so I was stuck at 230-232 for the longest time, longer than my life. Last night I posted about taking 2 days off for the 3-day weekend. I was so scared to weigh myself because I gain like crazy when I don’t fast.

But, to my surprise, I was 228.6. I don’t count calories, and I definitely had tons of coffee with creamer, and even a few leftover Valentine’s Day cookies. How??

It happens. You’re far from the first person to report that taking a couple of days off resulted in breaking a plateau. Bodies are weird. Our metabolisms don’t stay constant, not even at a given weight — they respond and react to what we eat and when we eat, as well as to lots of other things like exercise, stress, medication, menstrual cycle (for those who have one), etc. So, sometimes a short period of “feasting” can kick the body into losing weight again. I don’t think anyone fully understands why this happens — lots of hypotheses but no hard evidence — but it demonstrably does happen.

Jerry Ward on BIOS3TRAINING on youtube has some old videos about this phenomenon, using random carb spikes after periods of fasting or keto to break through plateaus. He does explain it but has been a number of years since I watched this particular video
