Is it possible to lose 40kgs?

I am 21 years old. Early in 2021. I used to weigh 110kgs. I decided to go on a diet. Over the course of 5 months, I lost about 18 kgs. As I was halfway through my goal, I stopped dieting and started binge eating. It’s been 6 months since I stopped and I’ve gained 25kgs. I now weigh 118kgs and It suddenly hit me that it might be impossible to ever go back to a normal weight. I have never had a girlfriend and I don’t think it’s possible to ever get to a point where I am in shape, where I don’t have loose skin or I look good. I think I am panicking. Is there someone who has been in this same spot where I am? Someone who’s had to lose more than 35-40kgs? I’d love to see some before/ after photos because I think I am having anxiety and they might help. Thanks

Answer

It is possible! Don’t be discouraged. Have you looked at r/progresspics? There are some incredible weight-loss pictures.

You have the advantage of youth. Take it slow and steady. Bingeing can be the result of denying yourself too much.

And never think that you have to look a certain way to find a girlfriend. Numbers don’t define you. You are so much more!

Answer

Yes, I did.

I was 127 kgs, 280 lbs, when I started last summer, and I’m about 32 kgs lost, 70 lbs, now about 7 months later. I similarly had some success in the past before falling back on old habits. I was even up to 140 kgs, 312 lbs, a few further years back. All told, that’s more than 40 kgs and there’s certainly plenty of folks that lose even more than that.

So yes it’s possible, for me it was all about finally getting into the right mental space. I couldn’t just want to lose weight, that was focused on an outcome not on the process. It needed to be centered on positive improvement and goals.

As for before/after there’s a bunch pinned on my profile. There’s also an option in the sidebar of r/progresspics to see pics based on your height.

I actually have basically the same starting weight (117 kgs) and have the same amount of weight to lose (35 kgs). I am also 22 years old and male. So you might find some solace. I have lost 13.6 kgs so far (started exactly a month ago).

Here’s what I am doing

TL;DR OMAD + Strength Training + Lots of Walking + Occasional Fast

You can do it! Many people have lost weight from far worse and starting far later! Turn your anxiety into a focus on bettering yourself!

Answer

you’re so young its absolutely possible. its about discipline and changing your relationship with food and developing a healthy perception and care for yourself. there are plenty of people here who have lost 40kg and more. My own goal is 54kg! You can do it. Believe in yourself and try to develop a community of friends and family who will encourage you and support you on your journey.
