So I broke my 13 water fast on Monday. Tuesday to Thursday I’ve haven’t been eating the best, high carb foods and sugar. Probably averaged 3000-3500 calories a day. I think I probably gained 4 pounds in those four days and I’m estimating 6 pounds in water weight. I feel quite bloated.
Kind bummed out but I just wanted to eat all my favourite foods. I’m thinking of going back to water fasting for ten days. Now I know what happens to me eating what I want, I am going to go strictly keto after I break my water fast.
All in all, I’ve still lost 14 pounds in body fat across the 13 days which isn’t bad but I wanted it to be 20. Wish me luck in round 2.
Its 10 pounds of water and glycogen, not much fat trust me. I actually carb up every weekend and I gain close to 10 lbs. Once I start fasting 48s on Monday again, I lose the 10 lbs in a couple days and by the end of the week I lose the 10 lbs plus an extra 3-5.
For starters don’t have unrealistic expectations, around 1/2 pound a day of fat loss is pretty outstanding. Under caloric restriction a pound a week, with a good chunk being muscle loss, is the less desirable norm.
There is a diet better than keto and a lot easier, It is called “clean your existing diet” diet! Don’t throw away the baby with the bath water, make your existing diet healthier for life. Start cutting breads, liquid calories, empty sugars, and the like. In the long Term fixing your eating habits is more sustainable.
That’s happened to me in the past. You’ve 1st hand learned that a fast will lose you weight but your long term weight is shaped by your daily diet.
Personally i’m whole plant based not keto. I did a 7 day fast that had me lose 16 lbs then went slowly into WFPB (no salt no oil) with 18:6 IF and i’m down 23.4 lbs so far ( 24 days total counting the fast so avg of almots 1lbs a day of loss). It’s certainly possible to not gain but keep losing after a water fast but it is very much about what you are eating after. You still have to reconcile CICO
You don’t have to go full keto to avoid dramatic water weight, cut out refined carbs and you’ll be fine :) lots of nutrients in lentils, carrots ect, fiber. You’ll do great. Focus on getting nutrition not food helps me plus you’d be surprised how amazing good food tastes, especially after a fast
When I’m through fasting, I look at myself in the mirror as motivation, but I fully know that probably half the weight is going to bounce right back after a few days of eating. Even taking that into account, fasting is still a hella fast way to lose weight.
