What do you think about fasting on EVOO?

I’ve seen some people take 3 - 5 TBSP of EVOO (Extra Virgin Olive Oil) a day during fasting and will go on that way for days and this way is easier than regular water fasts. Has anyone tried this? What are your thoughts on this?

I can only speak from personal experience - any calories at all made me hungrier. I tried bone broth and it made me want food. Tried butter coffee and I wanted food even more.

I have heard of people having success with this - and you’ll obviously lose weight and get a lot of the benefits if you do that. I just think it’s easier with nothing at all.

Answer

I think that is fasting for quick “special event” weight loss, in which it is also likely to give you diarrhea. It will work short term and you’ll lose a lot of water weight especially but not good for long term or fasting for health.

My thoughts are that sounds horrible. That’s a lot of oil. IMO our bodies are made to consume fat in the form of oil. I use it sparingly for cooking and I get my fats from whole food like nuts, olives and avos.

I suspect this will also give you the runs.

Answer

You’re either fasting, or not. Zero calorie drinks - while not water - are acceptable as long as they don’t spike your blood glucose. You will lose out on the benefits of autophagy though.

3-5 tbsp is NOT a fast - but a feast (even if the calories are restricted).
