Would the Avatar Diet Work?

Hello! I know nothing about nutrition so I apologize if this question is incredibly stupid, but I’m curious. In ATLA, Aang is studying with a guru who feeds him only onions and bananas and says it’s a balanced diet to gain balance within himself. Would this actually provide the necessary nutrients for a human body? Granted he’s not doing any exercise and is just spending his time meditating so there isn’t a great need for caloric intake. Thanks!!

Answer

I like the Cyrano de Bergerac diet more. It’s a grape, half a macaroon, and water. Banana and onion diet? Bad breath and terrible gas with headaches. If you are going to eat like they do in cartoons, eat nothing but carrots (Bugs Bunny) and spinach (Popeye the Sailor.)

Answer

That diet, IMO, is for Aang to overcome his mind to change how he feels so he can enter the avatar state. He ends up liking the juice after dealing with his lower chakras because he released his fear, anger, confidence etc. he was basically fasting and letting his body live off this nasty mix so he could go through a process of self transformation through discipline. However young Aang couldn’t let go of Katara, his first love and left in a rush only to realize how the disconnect from earthly things enables a cosmic connection right when he needed it most.
