acid reflux - 1 month IF so far

what gives? This only started for me once I began IF a few weeks ago. I chew the anti acid tablets every other day.

Does this mean IF is not right for me or what? Contemplating going to a dr about this. Any advice or tips from those that have been on IF for a year or longer?

Try lifestyle modifications first. Keep taking tums or Maalox as needed. If that doesn’t work, try pepcid daily. If that doesn’t cut it, add Omeprazole.

Reasons you should see a doctor for GERD: those things don’t work, you have risk factors for H pylori, your symptoms are severe, you’re unable to eat/unintentionally losing weight, you’re vomiting blood or coffee-ground like material, you have history of ulcers or gastric surgery, or other complicated medical history.

Losing weight will probably help your GERD.

Please-please, watch dr. Berg’s videos on YouTube about acid reflux. All these anti acids are only dealing with the symptom, whereas long term they exacerbate the problem. In the vast majority of the cases, the acid in the stomach is too low. I know it sounds contradictory. However, the low acidity lets the sphincter open, and the stomach juices move up to the throat. We can taste the acid, yes, but that doesn’t mean the acid is too high. The acidity in the stomach has to be very high to digest meat and kill off the germs that come with the food.

I am not a doctor, but I dealt with acid reflux for a while. Most recent literature says that all those anti acids (omeprazoles, PPI, H2 blockers) are really harmful long term. Low acid also allows bacteria h.pilory settle in the stomach and that will lead to ulcers. Only thinking of my reflux as a low-acidity issue actually helped addressing the root cause.

IF can also help with the reflux if you take long enough breaks between the meals, so your stomach juices replenish before the next meal. Eating too often (snacking) doesn’t give the digestive system enough time to prepare for the next round.
