Answer

Depends. Freshly squeezed or anything from local markets is pretty good micronutrients-wise, and won’t have as many additives as store bought OJ. If you like the taste and if it will get you to at least get some vitamins then have it.

Answer

It’s seldom a good idea to think of individual foods as ‘good’ or ‘bad’ for you. It has simple carbs, minimal fiber and some vitamins and minerals. If that is what your diet needs, then yes, it is good for you. Are there better ways to get those things, absolutely. If you already consume a diet high in carbs, I would avoid overdoing it on orange juice.

Answer

There is no clear, straightforward answer to a question on nutrition like this as it’s all shades of grey. ‘Good’ in one situation may not be in another. What ‘good’ means also varies by person. A well balanced diet allows for a moderate intake (which will vary depending on the food) of most foods.

Now that has been said, in simple terms eating an orange would be better as it contains the fibre and would lead to increased satiety.

Answer

No, it’s also artificially enhanced with “flavor packs” containing ethyl butyrate to make it taste like oranges (after they remove the oxygen which causes a loss of natural flavor). These things do not have to be listed on the ingredients either.

Rather just eat an orange.

Answer

Orange juice is good. The pulp version adds some fiber to the diet. As for sugar, look at the added sugars listed on the nutrition facts label. If you see 20% or more it means its high in added sugars. If you see 5% or less it means it is low in added sugars.

Answer

the vitamins in it are good for you but the fact that its just unadulterated sugar with no fiber is not. the damage it does to your pancreas long term probably outweighs the vitamins, especially since you get them lots of other places

Answer

What orange juice are people drinking that there is added sugar? Just get 100% orange juice, that is freshly squeezed if possible. Or eat oranges. Since it’s high in sugar, just don’t overdo it. A couple times a week is not going to kill you. If you’re obese and trying to lose weight, then I’d avoid it.

Answer

it’s way better to actually eat an orange. even if you’re only drinking it for the vitamins, there are way better sources.
if you just need an excuse to drink orange juice because you like it, try diluting it with water - it often keeps the taste well enough while reducing the sugar etc

Answer

I think it depends on the circumstance. If you’re drinking it everyday it may not be the best option but if you’re only having it occasionally it’s not that bad. Also there may be times when it’s necessary such as when I needed to take an iron supplement that my doctor prescribed and recommended that I drink a glass of orange juice with it for absorption purposes.

Answer

You’re better off eating an orange, obviously, and I think you know that. But yes, other than the sugar and the accompanying insulin spike, which will be fine for any non-diabetic with an otherwise healthy diet, orange juice is healthy. In addition to a ton of vitamin C, it also has a lot of folate, which a lot of Americans lack in their diet.

But it wouldn’t be a healthy choice for someone who consumes a lot of sugar already.

Answer

No unfortunately it doesn’t have much in terms of nutrition, but as an orange juice lover I recommend just cutting it like 90% water 10% OJ. I find it actually tastes better and you get a tenth the sugar. I havent had full strength orange juice in a decade.

Answer

orange juice is fantastic, in moderation since it more sugar-concentrated without the fibre in say, an Orange. Oranges also rank higher in satiety while the fibre leads to a slower absorption of the sugar (at least I remember reading it that way)

Problem with juicing in general (even without any added sugar) is that you can drink four glasses of juice but not likely to be able to eat 6 oranges or 20 carrots.

Answer

Well, I had the case made too me by the experts that most fruit juices and granola bars are nothing more than candy…..so I gave up orange juice…..within months I started getting gall stones….I Googled it and found out orange juice has something in it to prevent the formation of stones…..it must be true, because I drink it almost every day and I have had no further problem….for me, I love the orange juice with the extra pulp…..you get the fiber and a bit less sugar….and in my opinion it tastes better….

Answer

Nutrition is great but sugar is the real enemy. There is no essential requirement for sugar and there’s almost as much sugar in OJ as in soda per equivalent servings. You could eat 3 Med oranges and still consume less sugar, feel fuller and have all the added benefits of pulp and vitamins.
