Noob Electrolyte Question, IBD

A little background, feel free to skip to the end:

I’ve been doing intermittent fasting for a while off and on, nothing major, typically 20:4 or 18:6. My goal is fat loss and just general health and energy. I’m not “overweight” but I’m feeling a bit flabby lately and haven’t been working out like I used to. I like not having to count calories and I find I don’t get as hungry eating this way.

I’m thinking about going to the next level and trying a water fast since the intermittent fasting is so helpful for me. I’m 42F if that matters.

TLDR; My questions are:

Do I need snake juice for a 24 hour fast, or at what point are electrolytes needed? Electrolytes seem like a legit concern but the snake juice thing seems almost like a cult.

Is there anything I need to do to avoid irritating my IBD? It’s well controlled with medication but I definitely don’t want to trigger a flare up.

Answer

no. probably not even on a 72 hour fast.

when you’re starting out, every fast can be a really different. You’ll have to be especially attuned to your body for the first few times and give yourself an easy no-fault exit from fasting if you start to feel strange (gut-strange), and try again a few days later. Same thing if you start to try multi-day fasts. Willpower isn’t as important in this as patience and humor. Good luck!!
