Time for results!

Sorry for this post, I am on mobile so trying my best to make this neat.

I have been Diabetic for 14 years, half my life. I have endocrinologist appointments every 3 months. Today is an appointment day. I have never had an A1C under 7. Since my last appointment 3 months ago, my A1C was 7.2 & average glucose was 160. These past 3 months I did small fasts, leading up to longer fasts. I have cut my insulin intake in nearly half. I feel 100% better than I’ve ever felt. I’ve finally lost stubborn weight I never could get off. I am having very high hopes that my lab results will be the best they’ve ever been.

I just came here to get that off my chest. I have nobody to really confide in. And most people believe fasting is horrible, especially being a diabetic. But I have never had such a great control on my blood sugars. This past week I have kept my sugars under 120, which is even hard to do as a non-diabetic. These past 3 months, I’ve kept them under 200. I am so proud & if it wasn’t for this helpful community, I’d be dreading this appointment. I have good results I’ve seen for myself which is all I really needed, but can’t wait to see my doctors face when they see how hard I have worked.

Thanks to this community & process, I have gained control of this disease.

Congratulations! I was also diagnosed with T2 in 2008. I always believed that diabetes could be put into remission or even reversed after I read about diabetics ‘cured’ by weight loss surgery, as opposed to the progressive deterioration most medical practitioners expect. I spent years trying to lose weight, eating ‘healthy whole grains’ and trying to ‘eat less, move more’. Despite have A1c’s under 7, I still found I was developing neuropathy in my feet. About a year ago, I started fasting and following a keto diet. For the first time in over 20 years, I am under 200 lbs, down from 250+. My last A1c was 5.3. My last lab work was the only one in 14 years that the fasting glucose was under about 140 (90).

You are on the right track, I believe! If you haven’t read Jason Fung’s The Diabetes Code and The Obesity Code, you should consider doing so. Also be aware that not all medical practitioners will encourage fasting and/or Keto; there’s a lot of outdated knowledge out there. Also your lipids may get wonky as you lose weight, so be aware of that. Good luck!
