Answer

Not all feel good while fasting. I personally do OMAD and 5-7 days fasts twice a year and love this protocol of eating. I tried to go back to eating few times a day, always felt worse. But if it doesnt’ work for you, why force yourself?

Answer

When I first started fasting and keto I did feel that euphoria feeling. I also had a lot of energy and I felt like my ADHD was not as bad. I have fallen off the wagon a lot and ate high carb while not fasting like I should and I haven’t gotten those feelings back. I know it can happen though.

How’s your electrolyte game? Water?

When’s the last time you got outside and walked around a bit?

Have you done anything with your brain recently? Any reading or games?

I find that a lot of folks just stop eating and start laying around a dark room thinking about food. That’s no way to do it!

Answer

It’s different for different people. I’ve felt the mental clarity but only every after 60 hours into an extended fast. Feeling full of energy is also something that comes later into a longer fast for me. That being said, comparing yourself to others can be pretty unhealthy mentally so I wouldn’t think too much about it

Answer

Well fasting increases ghrelin release and that causes the body to produce more growth hormone which can help the body heal. I am currently in recovery for knee surgery and I won’t eat until Saturday. Had surgery yesterday (the 9th.)

Answer

You might have other issues, either mental or physical.

I’d get a full checkup, blood work. Also get assessed for depression.

I don’t feel like a God with fasting, but I do feel effects to one degree or another.

Answer

Everyone’s different but it sounds like a blood sugar issue. I think those benefits you soak out are from deep ketosis. Carbs can literally be addicting as your gut flora evolves around them. If you lower them enough long enough and get your body comfortable using fat as a fuel i think you’ll see the benefits you describe. But if you starve yourself and are miserable and go right back into a high carb diet you’re just reliving the same stage (the worst) part of fasting over and over. My wife was never able to break her carb addiction and has your experience with fasting. Just my anecdotal IANAD $0.02. For me, i never knew i loved carbs until i gave them up. The addiction is real but everything in moderation is great (unless your goal is ketosis). I’m just trying to kick 45 years of that bullshit FDA food pyramid…

I fast for weight loss but it has always seemed for me that I don’t get all the perks that everyone else does. When I go to the gym I have no motivation to work out and no energy because there’s no food in my system. My skin doesn’t clear up, my head isn’t clear. I’m focused most of the time on food and the fact that I haven’t eaten. I spend most of the day in a cycle of telling myself ‘this is stupid’ and ‘just keep going’. Also my sleep isn’t better when I fast either. If not for the weight loss I wouldn’t do it anymore.

Answer

Are you fully fat adapted and do you start each fast already in deep ketosis? Most people who are eating carbs right until they start their fast are not really getting that much fasted time if they are doin 12-48 hour fasts since the first half of their fast is simply burning up glucose and switching over to fat burning.

Detoxing off sugar, if not fat adapted, can also be very uncomfortable and those feelings can overpower the subtle euphoria state.

Answer

I’ve never needed to lose weight, rather the opposite. I do OMAD now, did IF before that. I definitely feel better, increased focus etc. But one of the most valuable parts of fasting for me is all the time I save. Eating breakfast and lunch can cost me up to 1.5 hours in a day, and a minimum of 40-45 minutes. That time adds up.
