I decided to put 2022 monthly progress reports here for accountability. Was tempted not to post the huge failure that January was for me but figured that would only encourage me not to post in the future. Hoping the public shame tactic will get me in gear. š
Hereās the month: https://imgur.com/a/ScM4UuP
There were a lot of 12 hour and 14 hours mixed in here that I deleted because they werenāt at least 16 but I think Iāll keep them in moving forward for more accurate reporting.
Trying to work my way up to reverse 5:2.
EDIT TO ADD CONTEXT: Iāve had success with dry omad before - less than extended dry fasts but still progress - and because I have around 100 pounds to lose i feel like this would be the best approach so I donāt have to wait long periods between fasting.
When Iām āon trackā I eat a meat/fruit diet with keto macros (or slightly higher in carbs but still low carb). In January I was extremely off track due to moving and several family events which covered the last three weeks of the month, hence basically no fasting.
Iām confident February will be much better now that Iām settled.
So it seams like youāre trying to do intermittent dry fasting - as opposed to extended dry fasting.
It doesnāt surprise me then that you havenāt lost when your fasting periods are 12 or 14 hours, assuming youāre making no other changes. Iām not saying there are no benefits to this, maybe long term youād start to lose weight, I donāt know, but I know that it doesnāt make enough difference for me and a lot of other people. In fact even a 16:8 plan isnāt enough assuming no diet changes.
No shade though, donāt look as it as a failure, youāre learning a lot.
I find that fasting is a lot easier when I do carnivore or keto, but when I try to stick to my ānormalā diet, I just donāt have the willpower. Of course I understand that these diets are not for everyone, but then it is important to do a whole food diet, and try to eliminate processed foods as much as possible, certainly consider the NSNG diet at a minimum (no sugar no grains).
Iām also not entirely sure there is much point in intermittent dry fasting for weight loss. Consider this, do you think youād find it easier to fast for 18-22 hours a day, if you could have a black coffee or tea in the morning and drink water during the day? I would try this if I were you, because the key with intermittent fasting for weight loss is consistency. Once youāre doing this, you can work yourself up to longer extended dry fasts for health benefits.
Anyway these are just things Iāve learned on my journey, I still have a way to go and Iām still experimenting with what does work.
Best of luck for February!
I am not trying to rain on your parade or anything, but just a pound? Dry fasting is the most extreme and fastest way to lose weight. I have lost 4 pounds in just a weekend with dry fasting. Once again I am not trying to dog you I am just wondering what your diet is like.
