My 21 day fast will end on Monday and need some smoothie and food ideas.

Hi,

I am now on my 20th day of my water fast and it hasn’t been easy, I could easily rank it as one of the hardest things I ever done. Hungry every day, no energy, bored from all the extra time and my thoughts are dominated day and night by food, lmao.

Tomorrow which will be my 21st day I am going to do some shopping, I have some ideas, but just wanted to get some opinions and ideas.

From the research I’ve done, the refeeding window should be as long as the fast itself, others recommend half that time.

For the 1st 3 days I was thinking of making a cucumber, celery and strawberry smoothie diluted with water and sip on that during the day. Would avocado be safe from day one or wait a few days? I also have some almond milk, could I add that too or would it be too rough on my gut?

Days 1 - 7: 1-3 Cucumber, Celery, Strawberry smoothie. 4-7: Add avocado and almond milk.

Days 8 - 14: Chunky vegetable soup, will boil the veggies until they are super soft. 11-14: Will add egg to the soup like egg drop soup.

Days 15 - 21: Tomato soup same again with veggies, may add meatballs/shredded chicken to the mix. Steamed veggies, boiled/scrambled eggs, whole grain breads etc.

I know how important the refeeding can be, so I will take it easy and listen to my body and remember to keep my myself hydrated.

Bone broth! Best if fresh too! I would stay away from fruits on the first day because of sugar but it’s also not going to kill you or anything its technically completely fine lol.

Avocados are good too, but I would also look into some kefir or sauerkraut for some good bacteria on day two or so. And I know it sounds counterintuitive for losing weight but adding some good fats on the first day few days is technically super important because you are teaching your body to use fat as an energy source.

I would go with healthy soups. Like already mentioned veggies broth or even some kind of blended veggies soup. Just be careful with starchy veggies like potatoes and pumpkins. Good luck! You are a hero!

IMO, you can get back to your normal diet over 3-4 days. A 21 day (or even 10 day) refeed seems way over kill to me.

Start with simple liquids and semi solids on day one like juices, soup, yogurt etc. Add some simple & easy to digest solids on day two like fruits, bread, pasta.

Listen to your body, if digestion is good and you feel good, add more complex foods on day three. Avoid meats, alcohol, spicy stuff, junk food etc till after day three.

My longest fast was 10 days. Broke it with some rice gruel, waited a couple of hours and had some soup & potatoes. By the evening I had a normal dinner.
