I’m working to lose 100 pounds over the next two months. I’ve done some 3 & 5 day dry fasts before, but with covid have had my eating habits changed for the worse lol. Hoping to do either a few extended fasts or rolling fasts. Has anyone successfully lost this much weight from fasting? I’m looking to really take fat off, not just water weight. I’m also looking for other healing benefits as well, but weight loss is my primary goal. I’ve been a long-time lurker in this sub but wanted to reach out for tips anyway.
TIA!
Why so fast?
Your body needs time to heal. Healing your body is what will lead to the best weight loss results. Chances are, you have what’s called metabolic insulin resistance syndrome. This takes time to heal, even with lots of fasting, same with a fatty liver. A fatty liver could take a year to heal.
I personally disagree with any goals that are focused on losing weight as fast as possible. If you are doing this to lose weight first, you still need to change your habits and adapt your body to fat adaptation (preferring fat as main energy source) if you want lasting results. Fasting is going to help you, teamed with your diet for when you do eat, and should be eased into giving your body time to get used to it.
Most of us have been hard on our bodies for years, a decade or multiple decades. We can’t just flip that in a few months, and personally I would not want to try. There are many variables to consider that are reduced when you gradually try fasting more and more (like vitamin and mineral deficiencies).
I was in the same boat where I hit 320 as my new max summer of 2020. I hated it so much. Now a year and a half later, I still weigh 268, but it is okay because I am losing it and keeping it off. I feel better, my clothes are getting looser. Fasting absolutely helped change my life, especially for getting rid of cravings that helps me eat better. It is okay to spend some time on this transition.
Good luck!
I definitely recommend combining fasting (intermittent like OMAD and even some for 3-5 days) with carnivore/keto/no carb diet. Losing weight quickly can be difficult on the body, so healing with digestible proteins like meat and eggs can help.
Good luck.
Congrats on getting serious about losing weight. I believe the faster you can lose weight the better. Longest fast was by Angus Barbieri 382 days of water fasting.
It would be good to know your height and weight.
There is no reason why you couldn’t water fast for 2 months if you have the fat stores to live off. Obviously dry fasting is much tougher on the body, listen to your body and don’t push too hard.
If I was in your position I would dry fast for as long as I could, then break it with water fasting and coconut water. Then dry fast again and repeat. If I need to eat I would eat watermelon and boiled potatoes. Then transition straight back into fasting.
You could have a new body in 2 months but depends how bad you want it.
Good luck mate
You did not build up to that size in 2 months. It is not realistic to expect your body to be able to loose weight just like that. Honestly the best fast for weight loss is a water fast, dry fasting is more for healing.
On mobile so I don’t have my sources here, but fasting for 3 days or less at a time is ideal for keeping the metabolism up. You’ll have to refeed more than you want to as well, break it slowly then feast, ideally over two days. Some folks will say to keep it keto, but if you’re eating unrefined unprocessed then I think that’s bogus; whole foods with a protein focus is the way to go imho.
I’m also a big promoter of high soluble fiber foods, but that depends on what your gut can handle.
Please post updates! I don’t tend to comment on them but I love following people on their progress rides.
